Entry One

I am reading The Prince and The Pauper by Mark Twain.

I know that the book takes place in England in 1547 and a that young Prince Edward switches places unintentionally with a pauper because they almost identical, a theme I've seen in other stories before. I also know that the time period and location also play a big role in the story.

Since the prince is switching places with someone from a low social standard, I predict that he will understand what life in England is really like from a peasant's point of view. I know that royalty were treated with a much higher standard in the 1500's and I think that the prince seeing life outside the castle will be a shock to him. I'm not too sure what the pauper will learn, but I feel that the prince will forever be changed by his experiences as a pauper and when he returns to his throne, he will want to make changes for the better of the people of England rather than just the royalty.

  1. Hey Joanna. This post makes me excited about your story since this book seems like a fairy-tale to me. Mark Twain is also a great old writer who has written classics that have been read to me as a child, your book seems very interesting and classic. I hope to learn more about your story!

  2. This book seems really interesting and the time period makes it seem very fable-like. I have heard about this book a few times before and it sounds like it would be a perfect read for you. The whole switching identities thing seems really cool and would be really interesting to read about!
